Homeschool Club- Gavel Club and Co-op

Today was the first day of Gavel Club and drama for Alex. I am quite happy that they made it an official Toastmasters Gavel Club this year.

Sabrina is in a geography and art co-op at the same time. My friend Nicole and I will be trading off teaching about South America.

Nursery

Once again I got to be Sabrina's helper in nursery. She is very good with the toddlers. Tonight, Sabrina introduced puppets to the little lady.

To the Rescue Musical

We went to another local Potter's House to see a play. It was a professional quality production and highly entertaining. Afterwards people had a chance to pose for pictures with some of the actors.

Homeschooling Group- Reptile Rescue Show

Our first field-trip of the new school year was a show by Las Vegas' only Reptile Rescue. They were highly entertaining and very educational.

Everyone had the opportunity to pet this beautiful snake.

Potter's House Christian Fellowship- English Second Language Class

Our church is now hosting a free English Second Language Class headed by Frank. Sabrina and I are volunteering to help with childcare. Alex is our jack of all trades, who will help out wherever needed.

Both kids baked cookies for the visiting time after the class, Alex made Snickerdoodles and Sabrina made Chocolate Chip.

For our first class there was one student from Brazil, who brought two children. Alex played chess with the teacher's son, while the younger kids watched a cartoon.

Alex and Sabrina helped with setting up and cleaning up afterwards.

Zooniverse- Galaxy Zoo

Alex and I have become citizen scientists on Zooniverse. There are lots of science projects to choose from. Alex is extremely interested in astronomy so we are participating in the Galaxy Zoo Project. With the Galaxy Zoo, we help scientists classify galaxies by answering questions about each picture.

There are so many new pictures of the universe that scientists can't shift through them all. We may be one of  only a handful of people to have seen this spiral galaxy.

We had a wonderful time at our homeschool group's annual Back to School Party. This year it was at Reunion Trails Park and the turnout was nice.

Ronald McDonald House- Cookie Crew

We have been really enjoying volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House. It has been a wonderful experience and I am so glad that we have this opportunity.

The kids are improving their baking skills in a way that is helpful to others.

Natural History Museum

I took both kids to the Natural History Museum. Our membership was almost up. We typically have one membership per year and rotate through the different museums in our area.

Flowers

Once again, Sabrina gave away flowers just to make people smile.

Frank and I take turns taking the kids for some one on one time. We usually take them out for ice cream, which they love.

Sabrina and I visited the Natural History Museum for a Mom/Daughter day. We had a great time.

Sabrina Library Helper

Although she is too young to be an official volunteer, Sabrina has become friends with our librarians, and is allowed to help with small tasks. Sabrina plans to become a volunteer there, when she is 13.

Friends dinner and pool

Our friends, James and Shelley invited us over for dinner and to swim in their community pool. Their little man just had a birthday so we got him a few toys. It was a wonderful night.

Roller Skating

We got the Summer Pass for the Crystal Palace Roller Skating Rink. We were able to have fun roller skating multiple times this Summer. The kids and I love roller skating. (I wish they were open during the day throughout the year.)

Nana: Tournament of Kings

As a thank you for watching the kids, we surprised my Mom with a trip to the Tournament of Kings. She had previously mentioned wanting to see a show like this. It is a fun show and she loved it.

Nana: Ronald McDonald House- Cookie Crew

Nana joined us as part of the cookie crew. She helped Sabrina bake cookies. (Alex missed that day.)

Sabrina burned her hand the time before, so she was nervous about putting the cookies in the oven. She did fine.

Swimming

This Summer, we got a pass for the local recreation pools. Frank gave both kids swimming lessons.

They went from barely swimming to meeting their goals and mostly enjoying the process.

It was also the first time they jumped from the diving boards.
