We visited Valley of Fire State Park in March. We had a nice picnic then enjoyed a beautiful hike. It was hot on the way back from our hike; I do not recommend going during the Summer. (We did that before and we did not even hike at all because it was way too hot.) The little boys' favorite part was when we stopped in the shade and let them play in the sand for a long time. They did not want to leave.
In fact on the way back to the car we got dirty looks from several hikers because Caleb kept whining, "I want water." We responded with, "You can have some when we get to the car." Of course they had no idea that he says, "I want water." when he doesn't want to go to bed, or doesn't want to do what he's told. Or in this case, doesn't want to leave the beautiful, fun, red sand and he wanted us to carry him. We actually did make sure he was hydrated.
