Alex and Sabrina have been taught that they can make a difference in the lives of others, even as kids.
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. Proverbs 20:11
One way we do that is by taking part in the Ronald McDonald House's Caring Cards Program. We buy a pack of index cards, which costs less than a dollar, then the kids decorate them. Their drawings are then turned in the next time we go to the Ronald McDonald House to be included with bagged lunches.
They do the same thing for the residents at the nursing home, where our friend is staying. The residents look for our kids when we visit. They call out to Alex and Sabrina by name and brighten up as they spent a few minutes talking to them. Some have even hung up their drawings in their rooms.
Another simple project they do is to send postcards to sick kids and their siblings through the website, Send Kids the World. We buy postcards whenever we go somewhere that has them. The kids write about their day, or an interesting fact, or a joke. The kids who receive the post cards often hang them up in their hospital room to brighten up the place. What kid doesn't love getting mail?
These are a few simple but effective ways to brighten someone's day that the kids can do from home. Others we've done include writing letters to seniors through Love For the Elderly and writing to deployed military members or veterans through A Million Thanks.
