Homeschool Group- Service Club

In Clark County there are at least 3,000 children in foster care. There are 1,000 licensed homes. This is only one county. Many of us will never be foster parents, but there are ways that each and every one of us can help these families. 

Our Service Club has decided to host a drive to collect new and gently used items for these children. We are working with a local nonprofit that will give the items we collect to the foster families, who can use them. 

One member has donated a very nice changing table that they no longer need. Another member started looking for clearance items to donate. She has gotten some cute kids clothes for cheap, which of course, means she can buy more. She also found a bunch of Sunny Day items on clearance and bundled them as a birthday party complete with Sunny Day plates and napkins. Others are going through their kids' things and donating gently used toys and clothing.

Roller Skating

The kids and I went roller skating during Spring Break, (they are open during the day when school is out). We got pizza and a drink with our admission.

We all really enjoy roller skating, but it has been a while since we went just for fun. Alex does the drop in class about twice a month. I'm looking forward to when they have the Summer Pass available.

Game Night

Scattergories Jr. is a new to us game. I loved the original when I was a kid. The junior version takes out the harder letters and has different topics. All players have the same list. Someone rolls the die to see what letter every answer has to start with.  If someone else gets the same answer it does not count.

GoNuts for Donuts is a fun card game. On a turn each player chooses which card they want. All players flip over the number of the card they want, but if someone else is going for the same card nobody gets it. Each card has different abilities and points.

Our family was invited to a friend's birthday party at a park. It was a beautiful day. Most of the families there are the same ones we meet for park days.

Game Night

Gurms is a tile laying game, in which you try to make as many matches of your color as possible while trying to prevent others from making matches. Tonight was our first time playing this one. We enjoyed it.

Tempurra is a crazy card game. If you can't play a card then you have to eat the total number played. There were six 7's when Frank had to eat, so he had to draw 42 cards. That is the most that anyone has ever had to eat at one time. The game was over very quickly after that. 

Scrabble is a game that we had never played as a family. I have played it several times with friends recently. I picked up a copy at a thrift store today, (many of our games are used). I was a bit surprised when Alex insisted we play it tonight. Everybody enjoyed it.

Homeschool Group- Easter Party

We joined the other members of our homeschool group for an Easter Party at a local park.

Sabrina enjoyed the egg hunt. I like how our groups do the egg hunts. Parents bring a dozen eggs that they fill for each of their children who participate. Each child is allowed to collect a dozen eggs. After everybody has a dozen the rest of the eggs are free game. Most parents fill them with candy, but I normally fill mine with small toys or coins. 

The kids all played the left/right game. Everybody got a small candy bar, but two lucky kids got the big prizes.

Sabrina enjoyed the craft and actually made two.

The party was low key and low stress. The kids mostly played on the playground equipment. One of the older teens directed several games. The moms, (no dads today) got to relax and visit. The snacks were from Costco.

English Second Language Class

Alex made his world (class) famous Snickerdoodles.

Class was on telling time.

I switched up the toys that we bring to the class. The boys seemed to really appreciate that. Still Imaginext, but dinosaurs and dragons. We had a lot of fun playing with them and using the characters from the Angry Birds games as toys instead of game pieces.

Homeschool Group- Game Club

Today was the last game club that Erica will be hosting. They are moving out of state. We will miss them greatly.

The moms played Upwords, which was new to all of us. It is very much like Scrabble, except you can add letters on top of words to change them. The scoring is also different.

The kids played multiple games. In the picture Sabrina is teaching her friends to play Dixit.

The boys really had a lot of fun playing Ice Cool. The game is quite different than anything I have seen before. The rooms nest inside the box, and actually are part of the box. The players take turns flicking the penguins from room to room. 

Game Club is something we look forward to each month. I will take over hosting it starting next month.

Sabrina and I had nursery Sunday night. She got practice with a child who wanted his Mommy.

Sabrina has missed Faith and her mom very much while they were in the Philippines. She was so excited when they came back.

My friends, Angie, invited me over for a fun no kid morning. She cooked breakfast and we played Scrabble. I really appreciate her for having me over.

Running for the House 5 K

Alex and Frank ran their first 5K this past Saturday. The Running for the House 5K supports the Ronald McDonald House Charities. There were 209 runners most, of who wore the "Ronald MacDonald's" knee-high socks given out to the participants. All runners received a medal upon finishing.

Sabrina and I did the fun walk.

Sabrina also climbed the rock wall multiple times.

Homeschool Club- Movie

A few weeks ago, Alex's drama club went to see How to Train Your Dragon 3 after their play practice. Sabrina got to tag along. It was the first time I dropped them off at the movies by themselves, (other moms I know were there).

English Second Language Class

Frank and Alex had new students. Frank concentrated on the new students, who needed more help. Alex worked one-on-one with our faithful student, who is more advanced.

Sabrina and I did not have any kids to watch. Therefore, we played games and with the toys.

Homeschool Club- Co-op and Clubs

Sabrina has really enjoyed her co-op with our homeschool club. She has learned a lot about geography and art. 

Alex has his play for drama club at the end of the month. I am looking forward to seeing it. I am the assistant teacher in Sabrina's class during the practices.
