Homeschool Group- Whitney Mesa Park
We joined our friends for park day. I absolutely love going to parks especially when we meet friends there.

P.S. Later on Frank and I had a date at Hush Puppies.
Favorite Caring Cards from January
Here are some of Alex's Caring Cards from this month.
These are only a few that Sabrina made.
Here are some I made.
Caring Cards are such a fun and simple way to cheer up sick kids. I highly recommend making them. We have also given these to residents of a nursing home and they love getting them too.

Running at the Park
We go to a nearby park several times a week to exercise after Frank gets off work. We are normally there during sunset and I get some pretty pictures.

Nursery
Sabrina and I had so much fun with these two, one year olds. It is such fun to help them develop their imaginations. I role played with the Little People toys and Sabrina used Carly's shoes as a toy by pretending they were tap dancing. Both kids kept picking them up and handing them to us after that.
5K- Real Autism Difference
We participated in the RAD- Real Autism Difference run.
Alex got to pose with the members of a cosplay group, who do volunteer work and support community events.

Seedling Theatre- Props and Stagehand
The door Sabrina painted to be Elsa's bedroom door was used in the Frozen play. Sabrina also volunteered to help with the concession stand and to be a stagehand, who helped with costume changes.

Homeschool Group- Park Day
We joined the homeschool group at Siegfried and Roy Park for park day. I was bummed that the zipline was broken- it was the coolest feature of the park.

Park Day with Friends
Sabrina and I met a group of friends from church at a local park. Sabrina had a great time playing cops and robbers with her friends. I enjoyed the conversation with the other moms.

Adoption Update
As you know, we are in the process of adopting from foster care. We have completed our 9 weeks of classes from the Department of Family Services, we have completed our home study, and now we are trying to be matched with kids.
This process is not easy. We were being considered for a sibling group, but the social workers chose another family for them. We are now waiting to learn more about a brother and sister.
In the US there are over 100,000 youth in foster care available for adoption. In 2017 almost 700,000 kids were in foster care. Every year 23,000 youth age out of the foster care system; most end up homeless, incarcerated, or on drugs; less than half graduate high school and hardly any go to college. There is a shortage of foster homes and adoptive families for these children.*
These kids need our help. Most of us will never foster or adopt, but we can still help. You can become a babysitter or tutor kids in foster care. There are clothes closets for foster kids that you can donate to.
Our local clothes closet for foster kids absolutely loved getting a "Birthday in a Bag" just get a large gift bag and fill it with a theme including party plates; ex. I recently found a bunch of Barbie dolls on clearance. So, I got 8 Barbie dolls and party supplies for less than $30.
I got the idea for a Birthday in a Bag after reading a story of a foster mom, who got a new placement a few days before the kid's birthday and nobody mentioned the birthday that was coming up. Thankfully, she saw it on some paperwork. She was left scrambling to give the child a birthday.
There are other groups, who do birthday in a bag differently. They gather the cake and food items. I know lots of people with food allergies, so I am more comfortable and think it's more fun to focus on the gifts.

* These numbers may not be correct- different websites had vastly different numbers. I couldn't find the number of foster homes.
Wetlands Park
We went to Wetland Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was a lovely day for a hike and it was also fun to take a new to us trail. It was a great family time.
I really wanted to get some good pictures of us in this beautiful setting. Some people, however, were more in the mood to be goofballs.
Despite that I did get some good pictures too.

Friend's B-day Party
Our family was invited to a b-day party at the park. I was impressed with the cake.
Sabrina had fun running around with her friends from church. My kids called this park AWESOME PARK when they were little.
It was a little kid's party so Alex was bored, but he did enjoy spending time with me and later on with Frank.

Games and other ways to spend time togetherr one-on-one
Frank and I enjoyed playing Qwirkle Rummy. We also have been running errands together sometimes, like dropping a kid off then we have time to talk just us afterward.
Sabrina and I played Flipolo. We also have been watching YouTube videos she likes and a few I like like together.
Alex and I played Food Fighters. We have also spend more time just chatting about what's important to him.
